Single and axial type stainless steel bellows
Axial type stainless steel bellow is a kind of corrugated compensator. It is an equipment to compensate dimensional change caused by thermal expansion or mechanical vibration of pipeline/conduit/vessel through corrugated compensator's elastic component. Based on above, it can decrease the deforming stress on pipeline and increase service life of pipeline.
Structural material: Axial type stainless steel bellows can be made of metal and nonmetal. Usually, the material of metal one includes austenitic stainless steel, corrosion resistant alloy & etc. while nonmetal one including PTFE, rubber and composite material.
Wall thickness: Refer to the wall thickness, there are thick-wall corrugated compensator and thin-wall corrugated compensator. The thick one is mostly used for pressure vessel to compensate vessel's own thermal deformation. In view of its little compensation dosage, only 1~2 waves needed with wall thickness in 3~22mm generally. For the thin one, corrugated compensator is used in the flexible part of pipeline. Its monolayer thickness is less than 3mm (The thickness of most stainless steel is 0.2~3mm). Since corrugated compensator used in pipeline requires compensation dosage as much as possible, wall thickness should be reduced in max to get higher flexibility under premise of satisfying pressure-bearing. Considering environmental corrosion, most corrugated compensator is made of stainless steel. If higher pressure-bearing is requested, thin wall multilayer stainless-steel structure could be better.
Number of layers: According to the layer, axial type stainless steel bellows can be divided into single-ply bellows and multi-ply bellows. The manufacture of single-ply bellows is simple with low cost. It is often used in the condition of dead load together with displacement compensation. On the premise of satisfying design of pressure-bearing, compensation dosage, rigidity and fatigue life, single-ply bellows has better competitiveness. Multi-ply bellows (often more than 2 layers) are commonly used in crucial pipeline in the condition of alternating load. Compared with single-ply bellows, multi-ply one has less rigidity and better fatigue resistance under same pressure bearing.
